        Educator

Steven graduated from UCLA and USC in Los Angeles, the first in his family to go to college. Attending college transformed Steven's world-view by opening him up to many possibilities. Now, he teaches Black Studies as a faculty member in the Department of Ethnic Studies & the Department of History and is an African American Faculty Fellow at the Diversity and Inclusion Student Center at Cal State University - East Bay. As an Educator, Steven's scholarship explores Black Humanity and its intersection with popular culture.

        Filmmaker

The Prof believes in using multiple mediums as catalysts for reform - for him, those mediums are education and film. After cutting his teeth in production on music videos for such artists as Dr. Dre, Tupak Shakur and Mandy Moore, he executive produced commercials and music videos for the likes of the Old Lahaina Luau Company and Grammy Award Nominee Ledisi. He then began to develop a media-based service learning curriculum aimed at producing high-quality media by pairing youth with professionals.

        Consultant

The Prof is the guy you call if you are trying to manage a federal grant to do social justice work with a strong media component.  The Prof has extensive experience as an Executive Producer on big budget commercials, as well as decades of experience working as an Educator/Filmmaker in a partnership with county agencies, school districts, community organizations, non-profits and governmental organizations such as the Workforce Development Board.  Add his work as a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) specialist as well as his online education expertise and you have a guy that can help any educational organization or media company develop partnerships that can amplify the impact of the work that they do.

        Activist

The Prof's most recent endeavor looks to combine his personal ties to Hawaii, the struggles of this current Black Lives Matter moment and the legacy of one our greatest civil rights heroes - Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  A KING IN PARADISE explores the untold journey of Dr. King's five days in Hawaii and its intergenerational connection to today's civil rights movements.
